The Jewish Museum : Unorthodox

The Jewish Museum

On view through March 27, 2016

The Jewish Museum
1109 Fifth Ave
New York, NY 10128

The Jewish Museum’s currentВ exhibitionВ UnorthodoxВ features 200 works by 55В contemporary,В cross-generational, and globalВ artistsВ whose practices mix forms and genres without concern for artistic conventions. Inspired by the Jewish tradition of dialogue and debate, UnorthodoxВ aims to break with cultural and artistic uniformity, proposing a nonconformist engagement with art.

Unorthodox: On Museums
Symposium at the Jewish Museum
Sunday, February 28, 2–6:30pm

Presented in collaboration with New York University’s Program in Museum Studies, this symposiumВ gathers 13В of the most influential museum directors and curators from around the world to discuss unconventional approaches to programming at their various institutions. The participants consider how museums can cater to increasingly broad audiences while remainingВ at the forefront of intellectual, political, and artistic dialogue. In this context, we ask:В What counts as orthodoxy and what can be considered truly unorthodox in museum practice today?
