Transcultures is happy to invite you to the ninth edition of the international sound art festival City Sonic which will take place in Mons (Belgium) from the 27th of August until the 11th of September 2011.
The opening welcomes everyone, it will take place on the 26th of August at 6 pm (meeting point Site des Abattoirs, rue de la trouille 7000 Mons) with a guided tour of the sound itinerary in the center of the city in the presence of the artists, Philippe Franck (artistic director of the festival) and Anne-Laure Chamboissier, associated curator.
In the evening, you're invited to a sonic drink, a cool mix (by Belle Jeunesse) and 2 sonic performances at the Royal Theatre (Grand'Place) by Alexander Schubert (interactivity drums/video) and Yvat Collective (Yvat, electronics versus Adrian Tabarescu on vibraphone) followed by groovy eclectic mixes by Radio Campus djs: Kandid, Youri Margarine, Belle Jeunesse & Satan.
This year, City Sonic, in partnership with the City of Mons, proposes a poetic & inventive sound itinerary in several architectural & cultural places of this historical city : starting at salle Saint Georges on the Grand Place then the Fine Art Museum (BAM), Maison Folie, Médiathèque, Machine à Eau (water machine), & Site des anciens Abattoirs (renewed slaughterhouse). With more than 70 artists coming from several artistic disciplines (music, visual arts, literature, digital arts, radio art, design, architecture …) and various countries, City Sonic #9i is a unique event and a key festival to enter the many doors of sound creation in Belgium and abroad.
The programme features International artists such as Jim Shaw (USA), Hans Peter Kuhn, Rolf Julius (Ge), Saâdane Afif (Fr), David Renggli (Ch) … but also young talents from the Belgian and French art schools (ESAPV Mons, ENSAV La Cambre-Brussels, ESAD Strasbourg, ENSA Bourges,.), and artists produced by Transcultures (Livescape collective, Isa Belle & Paradise Now, Gauthier Keyaerts,…).
Performances by sound poets (Charles Pennequin, Vincent Tholomé, Aymeric Hainaux) and electronic musicians (the Aktivist, aMute, Squeaky Lobster for the Transonic event - Sept 10) & hybrid sound artists (0 aka Sylvain Chauveau, Rainier Lericolais, Guy-Marc Hinant/Sub Rosa, Jeroen Vandesande for Sonic Archipel ,closing event on Sept 11), and many others in partnership with Festival Cap Sonic. Sonic workshops, round tables, guided tours, original performance) & workshops (Sonic Kids fro the youngsters) are also part of this copious programme.
