“The Future Generation Art Prize@Venice 2013” Collateral Event of the 55th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia – has been officially opened

Special guest Damien Hirst, one of the Mentor Artist of the Future Generation Art Prize, attended the opening ceremony.

Today, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and PinchukArtCentre have presented The Future Generation Art Prize@Venice 2013. The exhibition includes the 21 artists, from 16 different countries, who were shortlisted in the second edition of the first global art prize for artists up to 35. The exhibition is an official Collateral Event of the 55th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, and is on view at the Palazzo Contarini Polignac (Venice, Italy) from June 1 till September 1, 2013.

The opening ceremony was attended by one of the Mentor Artists of the Future Generation Art Prize Damien Hirst, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko, curator of the 54th Venice Biennale Bice Kuriger, Tate Modern Director Chris Dercon and others.

The 21 independent artists’ statements include among others the Winner of the Main Prize, British artist Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and the 5 winners of the Special Prize: Jonathas de Andrade (Brazil), Micol Assael (Italy), Ahmet Ögüt (Turkey), Rayyane Tabet (Lebanon), and Marwa Arsanios (Lebanon).

The other artists are Meris Angioletti (Italy), Abigail DeVille (United States), Aurelien Froment (France), Mykyta Kadan (Ukraine), Meiro Koizumi (Japan), Andre Komatsu (Brazil), Eva Kotatkova (Czech Republic), Tala Madani (Iran), Basim Magdy (Egypt), Amalia Pica (Argentina), Agnieszka Polska (Poland), Emily Roysdon (United States), Yan Xing (China) and two groups: Joao Maria Gusmao + Pedro Paiva (Portugal) and R.E.P. (Ukraine).

The Future Generation Art Prize@Venice 2013 offers a rich scope of artistic positions, mapping and discovering groundbreaking and future tendencies of a new generation of artists.

Confronted with the context of the late 15th century palazzo Polignac, this new generation of artists took up the challenge to engage in a dialogue with the impressing palazzo, mainly presenting new works. Among the highlights of the exhibition will be the special created, site-specific installations of Abigail Deville, Mykyta Kadan, Eva Kotatkova, Yan Xing and R.E.P.

Opening period: 1st of June – 1st of September 2013.
