Forum Book Launch: Dublett – Annette Kierulf & Caroline Kierulf, and talk by Max Schumann (Printed Matter)

Hordaland Art Cente is pleased to launch a new book series called ‘Dublett’, focusing on an artist’s practice, an artistic collaboration or an artistic project from this region. The first publication is dedicated to the practice of Annette Kierulf and Caroline Kierulf. For the launch we have invited Printed Matter’s Max Schumann to give a talk and a workshop on artist books.

The launch is led by a talk on theВ political economy of artists’ book production, in light of a kind of ‘renaissance’ in artists’ book publishing by a new generation of enthusiasts. On the one hand, this seems to reinforce the vitality of the book as an art form and its aspiration as a democratic and accessible practice, but on the other one could ask what the realities are of a sustainable form of artists’ publishing in the current economic context?

The talk starts at 6 PM, and the book launch starts at 7 PM. The workshop is scheduled for Sunday 13 October between 11 AM and 1 PM. The workshop has limited capacity, and booking is essential. Please see separate announcement.

ABOUT DUBLETT

Each Dublett consists of a new artist book and an anthology of commissioned texts. These twin publications focus on an artist’s practice, an artistic collaboration or an artistic project. The Dublett series is initiated by Hordaland Art Centre, taking the Hordaland region as its point of departure. Dublett is designed by Anti & Grandpeople/Gaute Tenold Aase. The Dublett book series is graciously supported by Hordaland County Council’s ‘Kulturelt utviklingsprogram’ (Cultural Development Programme).

В

’DUBLETT – Annette Kierulf & Caroline Kierulf’ feature texts by Gunstein Bakke, Paul Coldwell, Geir Tore Holm, Ika Kaminka and Jan Svenungsson, as well as a common artist book made by the artists. ’DUBLETT – Annette Kierulf & Caroline Kierulf’ is additionally supported by the City of Bergen.

MAX SCHUMANN has been working at Printed Matter, Inc. for the past 22 years; he has been Manager since 1993, took on the title of Associate Director in 2005, and has played a key role in the development of many of Printed Matter’s programs and services over the past two decades. Schumann is also a working artist and has shown internationally, mostly in public venues and alternative art spaces.

PRINTED MATTERВ is the world’s largest non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of publications made by artists. Founded in 1976 by artists and art workers.В Printed Matter is dedicated to the examination and interrogation of the changing role of artists’ publications in the landscape of contemporary art. Printed Matter’s mission is to foster the appreciation, dissemination, and understanding of artists’ publications, which we define as books or other editioned publications conceived by artists as art works, or, more succinctly, as ‘artwork for the page’.

Thanks to Printed Matter.
