The 17th Japan Media Arts Festival’s award-winning works and Special Achievement Awards have been chosen.

The Japan Media Arts Festival is a comprehensive festival of Media Arts (Media Geijutsu) that honors outstanding works in the four divisions of Art, Entertainment, Animation and Manga, as well as providing a platform for appreciation of the works that have won awards.

For the 17th Festival we received a record number of 4,347 works from 83 countries and regions, a 24% increase from last year, including 2,347 entries from abroad. After strict screening, the jury of each Division selected the winners of one Grand Prize, four Excellence Awards, and three New Face Awards.

At the Awards ceremony on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, each prize winner will be presented with an award certificate and a trophy. The exhibition of award-winning works will be held from Wednesday, February 5 to Sunday, February 16 at the National Art Center, Tokyo and other venues. Through this exhibition, film screenings and a concurrent program of symposia, presentations and workshops, we gather diverse artists and creators from Japan and abroad and present myriad forms of contemporary expression. These 12 days offer a precious opportunity to encounter works representing the most contemporary trends in Media Arts.
