IMMA reopens with a weekend of events and activities for all ages

Friday 11 October – opening night

Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October –events and activities throughout the day

The Irish Museum of Modern Art is delighted to reopen its main building with a major exhibition of the work of Eileen Gray, alongside the opening of three other exhibitions – In The Line of Beauty; Klara Lidén The Myth of Progress and One Foot in the Real World. To celebrate IMMA presents an exciting weekend of fun activities and events for all ages.

Join us on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October – highlights include an afternoon Tea Dance transporting you to the Paris of Eileen Gray’s era with 1920s music, dancers, tea and cake; explore a pop-up exhibition for families; enjoy art-making workshops for all ages; and don’t miss our great line-up of lively talks by curators and artists which includes a discussion by curator Cloé Pitiot, Centre Pompidou, Paris, on developing the Eileen Gray exhibition.

In Conversation: James Lingwood and Declan McGongale, The Chapel

In the context of the exhibition One Foot in the Real World, James Lingwood (Co-Director of Artangel) and Declan McGonagle (Director, NCAD and former Director, IMMA) discuss the history and significance of establishing the IMMA Collection.

Private view and opening reception

Exhibition opening of Eileen Gray Architect Designer Painter and the reopening of the main building at IMMA alongside the opening of three other exhibitions – In The Line of Beauty presenting the work of an exciting group of young Irish artists; The Myth of Progress an exhibition by Swedish-born artist Klara Lidén and One Foot in the Real World presenting iconic site-specific installations from IMMA’s Collection.

 Official launch by Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and Alfred Pacquement, Director of the musée national d’art moderne / Centre Pompidou, in the presence of the French Ambassador to Ireland.

Family

Action all Areas – Family Exhibition
The Project Spaces

Running over two weeks, Action all Areas is an exhibition which provides a unique opportunity to experience artworks that have been selected for a family audience combined with complementary activities and resources. Everyone is welcome to talk, interact and reflect. Artists included are Rhona Byrne, Janine Davidson, Colm Eccles, Priscila Fernandes, Antony Gormley, Rebecca Horn, Richard Long, Christine Mackey, Alice Maher, and Seoidín O’Sullivan and Karol O’Mahony. Exhibition continues until Sunday 20 October 2013.

Saturday, 12noon – 4.00pm

Participatory work by artist Rhona Byrne. Visit the exhibition to find out where to go.

This work is a co-commission by IMMA and Big House Festival 2013 / The Performance Corporation.

Artists’ Talks In the Line of Beauty

1.00 – 2.30pm, The Lecture Room

Join nine young Irish artists who will talk about their work featured in the exhibition In the Line of Beauty. Reflecting on exhibition themes of objecthood, aesthetics and the spatial experience of the museum, informal presentations will be given by artists David Beattie, OisГ­n Byrne, Aleana Egan, Fiona Hallinan, Sam Keogh, CiarГЎn Murphy, Lisa Maria Murphy, Joseph Noonan-Ganley and CiarГЎn Walsh. This talk is introduced and chaired by Francis Halsall (Lecturer, MA, Art in the Contemporary World, NCAD).
