Venue detail

Palazzo Loredan dell' Ambasciatore
Calle dei Cerchieri, Dorsoduro
Venezia Italia

The stunning Palazzo Loredan dell'Ambasciatore has been secured as the New Zealand venue for 2011. This is the first time Palazzo Loredan dell'Ambasciatore has been used as a Biennale venue and it will achieve significant profile for New Zealand on Venice's main tourist and transport route, the Grand Canal. The palazzo is a 15th-century Gothic palace that once belonged to the noble Loredan family and it was the birthplace of two early Doges of Venice – Leonardo Loredan (1501-21) and Francesco Loredan (1752-62). Previously also the home of the ambassadors of the Austrian Empire to the Republic of Venice, the palazzo is now owned by the Gaggia family.
