Ireland at the 54th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia

Corban Walker



Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan T.D., was joined by over 100 artists, curators and invited guests at the launch of Ireland at Venice, Ireland's representation at the 54th International Art Exhibition, which took place at the Irish Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday 10th May at 6pm.

Corban Walker has been selected as the artist who will represent Ireland at the Venice Biennale, with Commissioner Emily-Jane Kirwan and curator Eamonn Maxwell.

Speaking at the launch in IMMA, Minister Jimmy Deenihan commented: “The Biennale represents an immense opportunity for Irish artists to present their work at the leading visual arts showcase in the world and to gain international exposure to high profile curators and collectors. This showcase is not only a focus on Corban but is also an opportunity to attract attention to the depth, strength and diversity of a generation of visual artists working in Ireland."

Curator of the Irish exhibition at Venice, Eamonn Maxwell, added "It is a real honour to be curating the Irish Pavilion with Corban. He is an exceptional talent and his work for the Venice Biennale confirms that Ireland continues to produce international significant art, even in these challenging times. “
